Call for Authors: Alternative History Genre

Alt-History Based Book Sale Coming March 19th-25th

The first targeted genre sale from the Based Book Sale Substack is coming up! With more than 300 titles in the Spring Sale, it can be tough to sort through and acquire every single entry from all the authors. The idea is to make smaller collections available during the intervals between the large sales so readers can more easily find particular styles they love.

We have begun compiling a short list of authors and titles that we hope to include in this, the intention is to have between 10-20 authors/titles in this alternative history genre sale to make it easy for those readers that like the style to collect all of the entries without great expense.

The Alternative History genre sale starts Wednesday, March 19th, 2025, 12:00 AM PST and ends Wednesday, March 25th, 2025, 12:00 AM PST.

Authors, want your book included? If you want to participate in the week-long Alternative History genre sale, here’s what you have to do.

1. First, you have to subscribe so you’ll get the email updates when the sale is live.

   Based Book Sale is a cooperative effort for authors and readers alike. There is no cost to participate, although you are welcomed to upgrade to a paid subscription to further support our mission.

2. Second, put your book in the comments of this post in this format, a. Whether new to the sale, b. author, c. title, d. link. Example:
   NOT new to the sale; Michael Finney; The Fall of Tartaria, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCHCJD4M
   If you prefer another link, you may provide that instead, but then, we won’t have visibility to your sales, and you won’t be listed in the sale rankings.

3. This genre sale will exclusively be focused on alternative history, but beyond that, science fiction, fantasy, thrillers, romance, mystery, and other approaches are welcome. Space is limited for this event so please don’t think we are intentionally excluding your book if the roster fills up rapidly.

4. I’ll either "like" your comment or reply with a note if there’s a problem. It may take me a few days to catch up with all the comments. Make sure your book is priced to be free or $0.99 for the sale period, in this case: Wednesday, March 19th, 2025, 12:00 AM PST and ends Wednesday, March 25th, 2025, 12:00 AM PST. Either schedule a Kindle Countdown deal, if your book is in Kindle Direct, or put in a sales price change a few days in advance of the sale. Don’t cut it too close, since it may take up to 72 hours for the change to go through, and you usually cannot change it again for another month, anyway.

5. I’ll send out a link when the sale goes live. The price you pay for inclusion? Make a good faith effort to promote the sale to your readers through your email list and social media. Introduce your fans and readers to the other author’s books in the sale as the rest of us are doing the same for yours.

The Spring Sale saw more than 2600 books acquired, an excellent start to 2025 with approximately half of 2024’s total books sold during the first event this year. We hope to make this Alternative History genre sale a success and create a model for similar events to highlight target collections of authors’ books between the main events.
