An After Action Review

The sale referred 27 Kindle Free E-books and 101 Kindle Paid E-Books, as well as additional books sold outside the sale. We’ll survey the results and provide an early warning for the Super Summer Based Book Sale coming Wednesday, June 18, 2025, 12:00 AM PDT through Wednesday, June 25, 2025, 12:00 AM PDT.

Sale Results

This sale focused on North American fantasy. Toping the rankings was The Evidence for the Existence of the Mythological United States, by Norman X. Scozzafova, Following closely was Jordan Brooks Hill’s Crimsonfall Reapers in second place. In third place was Where Have All the Elves Gone?: A Paranormal Urban Fantasy (DESA Files Book 1) by Christian Warren Freed. Harvest of Evil: Book One of the John Fisher Chronicles and L. Jagi Lamplighter’s Rachel and the Many-Splendored Dreamland came in fifth.

Hellgate (Neighborhood Watch Book 1) by Morgon Newquist was sixth, followed by a three-way tie for seventh with Algerine Onyx’s Achron Kindness, Akiniwazisaga: A Light Rises in a New World, by M.D. Boncher, and Gemini Warrior by JD Cowan and Thomas Plutarch. In tenth place, we have a four-way tie between Milo James Fowler’s After the Sky, War Demons by Russell Newquist, Fenton Woods’ Pirates of the Electromagnetic Waves, and Watcher of the Damned: Transmutation Texas by R. H. Snow.

The Based Book Sale has long been funded by the 4% Amazon Affiliate kickback the sale receives when readers purchase a book through one of our links. $0.04 per book isn’t much, but over thousands of books sold, it begins to add up. We've always allowed non-Amazon links (from which we make no money), if authors prefer, so as to help authors and readers escape the Amazon monopoly. Since our move to Substack last year, generous patrons have supported our mission by upgrading to paid subscriptions. This has grown to such an extent that the subscription revenue is on par with the Amazon affiliate-link revenue. Speaking of which…

This alternate revenue stream will help us better decouple the sale from Amazon and explore alternate distribution channels.
