Mark your calendars for the Big Based Black Friday Book Sale coming 12:00AM PST Wednesday November 27, 2024 through 12:00AM PST Wednesday December 4, 2024.
This is a targeted email for based authors, but based readers might be interested in following along, too.
Let’s begin with the after-action review.
The After-Action Review
The latest Based Book Sale completed with Amazon reporting a total of 152 Kindle Free E-books and 1748 Kindle Paid E-Books sold to based readers. That doesn’t include sales authors made themselves or through channels outside Amazon, so the actual totals - judging by the reports authors have been sending me - are significantly higher. Here are the numbers we tracked here at the Based Book Sale.
Top authors included Vox Day, John C. Wright, Edward Gibbon, David Herod, Robert Kroese, L. Jagi Lamplighter, Michael F. Kane, M.D. Boncher, Edgar Rice Burroughs, G.K. Chesterton, J. M. Anjewierden, Travis Corcoran, E.E. “Doc” Smith, Hans G. Schantz, David Lindsay, Richard Nichols, Milo James Fowler, Jacob Calta, and Robert E. Howard. That’s quite a remarkable line-up, and highlights the Based Book community’s interest in both modern-day masters and the great creators of old.
I saw many participants’ tweets promoting the sale come across my feed. And we got an excellent boost from Vox Day, Liberty’s Torch, Anonymous Conservative, and John C. Wright.
Too many author promotions are just marketeers making money off authors whose sales don’t justify it. Too often authors see no net return from their marketing expenses. Based Book Sales are cooperative efforts that succeed, selling hundreds of books every few months, because authors work together to promote each other. What’s more, it’s absolutely free except for the time and energy based authors and readers alike invest in promoting the sale. And the money based readers spend on based books!
The next week-long sale will be the Big Based Black Friday Book Sale coming 12:00AM PST Wednesday November 27, 2024 through 12:00AM PST Wednesday December 4, 2024. Mark it on your calendar. I will send out a call for participation a few weeks in advance as usual. In the meantime, we have two additional initiatives you should consider joining.
The Everyday Book Sale
The first initiative is the Everyday Based Book Sale. This is the sale for authors who have books permanently priced at $0.99 or free. Do you have a book always priced at $0.99 or free? Then let the Based Book Sale help you always be marketing it. If you’d like to participate, please add a comment in the post below.
In a couple of weeks, I’ll update the Everyday Based Book Sale page and repost it for everyone to promote.
A New Initiative for Based Book Cooperation
I tried an experiment a couple months ago. Based author and friend of the sale, J. M. Anjewierden, put his entire Black Chronicles series on sale to raise money for a family emergency. I decided to back this worthy cause.
Working together with the rest of his fan base, we helped push the entire series into the top-ten in teen and young-adult space opera, even beating out Brandon Sanderson. That experience convinced me that the Based Book Sale community may have the reach to tackle a broader range of projects.
There are a lot of exciting projects the broader Based Book community is working on: book launches, crowd fund campaigns, and other projects.
Tell us all about them in the comments, and I’ll repost them!
Also, if you want to get on Substack or if you already are, please share a recommendation to the Based Book Sale Substack. Recommendations show up in the right sidebar of your homepage. I’ll do the same, and Substack selects a handful of them to display every time a visitor loads the page.
That’s it for now. Until next time, keep writing and reading those based books!
Hi Hans
Please leave Tales Yet Unsung up in the every day sales list. Thanks, Denton.
Hans, please add this one novel by me to your Everyday Sale list. It was in your seasonal sale as well. As always, thanks for this valuable service.
